Press any K는 여러가지 K들을 포함하는 바이오스(BIOS) 인터페이스이다. 여러 종류의 K들 중 시발점이 되었던 것은, 컴퓨터 하드웨어로써 일반적으로 접하게되는 키보드다. 그런데 타자기로부터 유래 한 푸시버튼식 키보드와 달리 현재의 터치패드 화면에는 깊이가 없기때문에, 바이오스 화면에서 마주하곤 하는 “Press Any Key to Continue”가 지시하는 ‘누르기’ 행위를 할 수 없다. 

Press any K는 사용자 친화성이라는 이름 하에 인텔 보호 모드(protected mode) 뒤로 숨겨진 바이오스 인터페이 스로부터, 초기 컴퓨터에서 가능했던 사용자 제어의 자유로움을 재해석하고자 한다. 이때 신호 전달은 클릭이나 버튼누름 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 감각적 입출력을 통해 매개될 수 있다.

Press any K is a type of BIOS interface that contains several K(ey) words. The first K-word is the “keyboard”, the one that is commonly encountered in computer hardware. However, unlike a usual pushbutton keyboard derived from a typewriter, the current touchpad screen does not have depth, and thus cannot perform the 'press' action indicated by the “Press Any Key to Continue” in the BIOS setting.

Press any K seeks to reinterpret the freedom of user control that was possible on early computers from a BIOS interface that became hidden behind Intel protected mode under the name of ‘user-friendliness. Signaling here can be mediated through a variety of sensory inputs and outputs as well as clicks or button presses.
